Hello Dr Moffat: My Husband is impressed by your website and you as a person. He knows I love Mother Theresa as you do. I was privileged to meet her briefly when she was in San Diego a number of years ago. I never had such an experience. She was already quite frail but I remember her powerful voice. It was highly unusual. She spoke without microphone and was heard loudly at the very back of the church. Surprised and thrilled we were all told we could come up to the front of the church to greet her. The church was packed. As we made our way up the aisle the pastor announced that we should no longer shake her hand.
She was very tired...understandably. But when I reached her, I entered a space that I will never ever forget. I entered a space of pure joy! Never have I experienced that before...it took my breath away and my "heart leaped for joy". And of course, I grabbed her hand contrary to instructions, and called out "sister" with great happiness and joy. The words just flew out of my mouth!!! If you knew me, you would know this was highly uncharacteristic of me. I'm usually reserved and calm and intellectualize everything. I'm ordinarily not highly emotional unless deeply touched.
The energy of Mother Theresa exemplified her life. I had only briefly read her books and sayings up to that point. I knew she was "real". She walked her talk on every level of her life. We all respect truth and her life represented Truth in her walk with Jesus.
Afterwards, I read everything I could get my hands on of her words. I, like you, am an avid reader. I devour books says my husband. A real bibliophile. I soon realized why the joy. All her writings speak of joy and having a joyous spirit. Smiles and joy in service became her life. She became joy! Carol Ann
