Health in the News:
Consumer Reports tested several over-the-counter brands of multivitamins for purity. They found that the super cheap brands were often contaminated with unwanted heavy-metals such as arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury.
What I liked about the study is that they figured using the cheap stuff would only save you only $3-21/year on the average. I’ve found this to be so true. Besides being better for your body, using higher quality supplements allow you to absorb them better. Clients often muscle test they need to take fewer pills (thus saving money.)
Got Headaches? An article from Hepatology Dec., 2005 found that the percentage of potentially fatal acute liver failure cases caused by the ingestion of acetaminophen (Tylenol™) rose from 28% in 1998 to 51% in 2003. Drinking alcohol when taking this pain-killer—even if it’s only in the same day—increases the risk of permanent liver disease. Acetaminophen is an ingredient in many headache and cold remedies.
Note: If you carry your weight at or below the rib cage, you are susceptible to chemicals that are processed through the liver like acetaminophen, NSAIDS, and alcohol that could cause liver damage. The enlargement there is a sign that your body is already attracting extra fluids there in an effort to detoxify the area. Some signs of an already weakened liver include anger, allergies, glaucoma, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, red rims on the fingernails and cancer.
Try drinking two full glasses of water for your headache before reaching for that Tylenol™. It works for most headaches.
Want to quit smoking? U.S. News and World Report, Feb. 13, 2006 reported that studies found starting the nicotine patch two weeks prior to quitting really helped in diminishing the desire for nicotine.
Does red meat mean it’s fresh? Think again! Since July 2004 the Food and Drug Administration accepted the practice of adding carbon monoxide to red meat to make it look fresh. The carbon monoxide binds with the myoglobin (red meat pigment) to create a bright red pigment.
The problem is that the meat is not labeled as being treated. The meat stays red longer, making it impossible for the consumer to know with certainty that the meat is fresh. Carbon monoxide has actually been found to last beyond the microbial shelf life of the meat, thus masking spoilage.
Yuk. Another case for home-grown or organic meats—especially for you Blood Type O people. The same type of myoglobin binding happens when you have extra carbon monoxide in your home. The pets and people have bright red lips with carbon monoxide poisoning and exposure.
What’s New on the Website?
I’ve always been open to being a resource for people, especially when guiding them to the right connections for their health. So, I set out to update my Healers Links, and emailed all the healers I knew from my hard-copy list I had made years ago.
Wow. I immediately got inundated with information for the update. The list is now updated and will continue to be updated as I meet, experience, and hear about more awesome healers. I think it’s a great resource. Many of the healers do work over the phone. Here’s the link: /linksbycategoryhealers1.htm
I also put up Fredd Culbertson’ Phobia List in the Exam Forms area. This list was emailed to me by a friend, Gary O’Keefe. I’m always open to new and wonderful resources for my clients, and this is an interesting list! The list has been on the web for over 10 years, and has been embellished during that time and is now HUGE. I use a phobia list for testing things we need to clear with emotional release work as sometimes phobias hold us back from exploring things that enliven and enrich our lives.
Ask Dr. Moffat:
Question: Dear Dr. Denice: When I eat walnuts I notice a “puckery,” acid-like feeling in my mouth. What is it in walnuts that cause that feeling?
Answer: Walnuts, Hazelnuts and Pecans are the nuts that have the highest levels of picric acid in them. Picric Acid is the same ingredient found in scorpion stings and spider bites—a real irritant to tissues. Walnuts are also high in a chemical called ellagic acid which has anti-cancer effects and helps to eradiate Helicobacter pylori (the bacteria causing stomach ulcers.) If you have nut allergies, you can get lots of ellagic acid by eating raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and pomegranates.
Question: I had a question about vanishing twins, wondering if you could answer that for me. I have a 10 month old boy. When I got pregnant with him, about five weeks into my pregnancy, I had an ultrasound and they told me that I had two sacs and that it was twins. At the time they couldn’t get a heart beat, so I went back to the Dr. and she told me then that I had one baby. The other was what they called a vanishing twin. She told me that the one twin absorbed the other?! Anyway the other sac disappeared and I have one baby. Since all that, I have seen several stories on the Discovery Channel that talked about if one twin absorbed another one, that later on when the surviving twin reached the age of six, seven, or eight… that they could develop a tumor in their stomach where they had absorbed the other baby. This doesn’t even sound right. I can’t figure out how this would or could happen, but I have seen a lot of stories on this. I wanted to ask someone who might really know about this. If you could help, I would really appreciate it. Thank you, Margaret
Answer: I wouldn’t be concerned, but do note it in his history so he knows of it. On rare occasion one twin can absorb another, but that’s not usually how it works. A close friend of mine has a vanishing twin (I never told him this.) I could tell because he had what is called a dermoid cyst on his forehead. A dermoid cyst is a growth that has every conceivable type of cell in it. He actually had a little piece of nail growing out the center of the cyst. He had it removed, but some of it grew back! I have heard where a vanishing twin will grow inside the abdomen. Most are just absorbed by the mother’s body and are a part of the mom’s uterus. This happens all the time in veterinary medicine. Once I did have a client who was taking that oral HCG spray and the spray enticed the benign dermoid cyst in her uterus to grow and turn into cancer.
Also, watch for those personality characteristics that seem to occur often in the vanishing twin syndrome and work on building self-love, self-worth, and self-esteem from an early age. I’ve seen some kid’s books out there on that recently. I’d love it if you could tell me which ones you find useful. I’ll put your recommendations on my Vanishing Twin webpage.
Enjoy him. Life is precious. It was the twin’s decision to come into your body and to leave, giving your son some very special spiritual lessons. They usually hang around for the life of the child. I test that his twin was a female. I bet he will like women more than men in this lifetime and search for a woman “just like him.” You watch, and keep in touch. Namaste. Denice
Question: Do you ever prescribe food grade hydrogen peroxide for cleansing? I have read scores of pros and cons—confusing for us commoners! I am considering it. . .Thanks from Linda in Atown (Atlanta)
Answer: Dear Linda. I’ve personally used it (orally), and it is often put into intravenous chelation therapy in the clinics down in Mexico, but it’s hard to get. I don’t currently have any, but I can’t say that I was impressed with the product (except for when you want to bleach an animal skeleton!) I don’t usually recommend it. I recommend papaya enzyme to increase oxygenation (raw or in pill form from American Health), raw fruits/veggies, and myrrh gum powder for that yeast (the hydrogen peroxide kills off yeast–so they say.) One of my mentors uses it to test where the cancer is located in the body. She holds the bottle up to each organ and does an arm muscle-test. Where the cancer is NOT, the arm drops. Where it IS the arm suddenly holds strong.
Question: I have a horrendous sinus cold. I’m taking C, B and Zinc. Any other hints? I’m going to try to keep my hands, the phones and counter tops disinfected so I don’t loose more employees by infecting them. Love you both. T.R.
Answer: The most effective technique that I know of for sinus problems and eye challenges is the hot/cold soak. Here’s what you do:
- Take two pans of water large enough to put your feet into. One should be filled with very hot but not scorching water, and the other pan with cold water (add some ice cubes to this one.) Add a clean washcloth to each pan.
- Take the hot washcloth, squeeze the water out, and put it on your face for three minutes. At the same time, have your feet in the cold water.
- Now, switch, and put the cold washcloth over your face for 3 minutes and your feet in the hot water bath for that same time.
- Repeat the process for three full cycles. Do this 1-2 times/day for 4 days and I think you will be well on your way to recovery.
The purpose of the hot/cold treatment is to flush the circulation from one end of your body to the other which moves and dislodges stagnated chi or energy.
Tips and Tricks for a Healthier Life
Do you eat like a bird? Everyday birds eat half their own weight in food. So, why do people say that a poor eater “eats like a bird”? If this were the case, a 50-pound child would consume 25 pounds of food each day.
Often I talk to clients, who want to lose weight, who tell me they hardly eat anything. I usually ask them if they have counted their calories and get the, “No, I just don’t eat hardly enough to count” answer. This last week, a client actually did count her calories only to find she was eating between 1650 and 1980 calories/day. . .hardly enough to count as a diet!
Women need about 1000-1200 calories/day to lose weight. Men use up more calories because of their testosterone levels. They need 1600-2000 calories/day to maintain their current weight and less than that to lose weight. Anything more than that packs on those pounds.
Question from Rose: I have a question regarding yeast. I have recently started taking a vitamin/mineral supplement which has wheat germ oil, rice bran oil, brewers yeast, vitamin B6 (2mg), biotin (1000mcg), riboflavin, and vitamin E (15mg) for my hair and nails. I’ve noticed since taking them I am swelling so badly in my fingers that my rings are cutting into my skin and causing dryness. Could the brewer’s yeast be causing this?
Answer: I’m muscle-testing that you are having an allergic reaction to something in the pill, specifically the Vitamin E. The swelling indicates that your kidneys are not processing water correctly. Discontinue the vitamin, get the right one for your body, and add 10% raw fruit juice to your water. This tricks the kidneys into thinking the fluid is a food and it processes the fluid differently. It also helps to extract and flush out the toxins from your body.
Also, make sure any Vitamin E products you take are natural and not made of petroleum by-products. If you don’t like the thought of a liquid vitamin, get high-quality or food-based products that say “mixed tocophorols” on them. We use a lot of the Standard Process labs Cataplex E here at The Healing Center. The cheap stuff usually contains petrochemicals that many are allergic to. The bad (synthetic) Vitamin E says D,L-Alpha tocophorol on the label. Labels that say D-Alpha are plant-based and safe to take.
Time Saving Tip for the Computer: I installed an emailStripper program onto my computer this month. I highly recommend it. Check it out: https://www.papercut.biz/emailStripper.htm . It takes all the annoying >>> and forwards and virus check paragraphs out of the emails before you use or forward them. It doesn’t take up much space and it does a great job.
Affirmations: My husband, Michael Robison, and I have always been supportive of positive affirmations. He seems to be better than I am at building them and filtering them for any signs of negativity. Your brain does not filter out the “not’s,” jokes and sarcasm. It takes them as fact. This is why it is so important to word the affirmations correctly. He wrote an article for me on it. Here’s the link: /Coaching Corner/Affirmations.htm
Client Testimonials:
From Donna C.: For some reason this is the day for me to give up smoking—It looks like the emotional clearing worked! Oh, and I couldn’t stand the wait and picked up a home cholesterol test from Wal-Mart after we met. It said my cholesterol was 146 – down from 268! I can’t wait to go and have the real lab test and get all the numbers—they have to be better! Thanks, again!
From Bill S.: I’m currently a nursing student in Chicago. I wanted to say thank you for building the lab value page. It is a great resource.
This from a woman with an aggressive Rottweiler problem: Delighted to talk with you today about our dog, Rakita. We tried the feeding trick tonight—I had the boys scoop her food, then set it on the counter instead of taking it to her spot. She tilted her head in wonder. Then we all picked up our pieces of bread I’d prepared for the “alpha’s eat first” ritual. She was SO surprised. I’d told the boys to eat slowly, careful not to drop any, and if she were to come forward to grab, they. . .not I, should tell her “down.” She came forward and reached for their food—John firmly said “down” –down she went! She’s never minded him before. She was up and tried it a couple more times before our bread was finished—each time I had the boys give the command and she obeyed. Afterward she received her meal happily. How fascinating to watch her respond like that—to see her grappling with the switch of power. We’re going to keep this process up until I’m able to find and read The Dog Whisperer as you recommended. Thank you for your helpful suggestions. Kim K.
P.S. – Since “work day” begins when the boys go to sleep, I had to tear myself away from your website lest I not get anything done in the studio. It’s a wonderful resource I look forward to returning to again!
Recipe of the Month: I’m always looking for complete protein, low-fat, tasty salads that are not boring. Here’s a recipe we like. The neighbors like it too, so it must be a keeper. We took a bowl over to our neighbor, Tim, and he ate both servings before his wife made it home for a taste. When Barb finally made it home, she was asked to trek on over to get the recipe. She made another whole batch the next day. Here’s the recipe:
Rice, Bean and Corn Salad
- ½ cup Long-Grain Brown Rice
- 3 Corn cobs or ½ large bag frozen kernel Corn
- 3-4 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1 small Red Onion, finely chopped
- 1 fresh Tomatillo, finely chopped (the recipe called for Green Chilies, but I’ve noticed that Green Peppers and the Pepper family cause some major fibromyalgia signs for about 4 days after eating them, so that’s why I substituted the Mexican Husk Tomato (Tomatillo).
- 1 Tablespoon fresh Lemon Juice
- 1 Tablespoon fresh Lime Juice
- ¼ teaspoon Tabasco sauce
- 2 Tablespoons chopped, fresh Cilantro
- 14 oz. cooked and drained Garbanzo Beans
- ¾ cup lean Black Forest Ham, diced
- Celtic Sea Salt and Pepper to taste
For the Rice: Bring a large saucepan of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the rice and return to a boil, stirring once or twice. Reduce the heat and simmer for 25-30 minutes until the rice is tender. Drain and rinse under cold running water; drain again, and set aside. You can use white rice which takes less time to cook, but I like the brown rice as it has more fiber and B-Vitamins in it and is healthier for you.
For the Corn: Scrape down each corn cob with a knife to remove the kernels. Place in a bowl and set aside. Scrape along each cob to remove the milky residue and transfer to another small bowl.
Now heat 1 Tablespoon of the oil in a pan. Add the corn kernels and cook gently, stirring frequently for about 5 minutes until tender. Add the Red Onion and Tomatillo, and then stir over low heat for about 1 minute until blended. Transfer to a plate and set aside to cool slightly.
Place the Lemon and Lime juices in a large bowl and whisk in the Tabasco sauce, 2-3 Tablespoons of the remaining oil, and the milky corn liquid. Whisk in the chopped Cilantro until well combined.
Using a fork, fluff in the cooked Rice, Corn and Onion mixture. Add the Beans, Ham, and season with Salt and Pepper to taste. Transfer to a serving bowl and serve immediately. Keeps in the fridge for several days, if it isn’t snarfed down before you get it there.

What’s New at our House?
Last month our whole team of shelter doctors went down to Anaheim, CA to attend the Shelter Animal Medicine Seminar. We had a great time rooming together and talking the night away. The other two doctors put up with my food fetishes and even ate granola and rice milk for breakfast.
“Why do you have all that food in your suitcase?” They asked.
After a couple of days of eating out, they figured it out. Too bad they could not be enticed to go to Disneyland! I love that place. My favorite ride is the Peter Pan ride. Maybe next time. . .
We got lots of ideas on how to diminish cat stress in group environments and saw several almost unbelievably gross photos of animal hoarding situations including the filth they live in. Man that is an awful illness! I’m so grateful that my friend, Dr. Tami leaves the spaying/neutering to me while she goes out into the world doing those types of calls for the Humane Society of the United States.
Michael and I also had a booth at our local IAM Holistic Fair. He read faces and I played naturopath and read a few sets of nails and shoes. It was a lovely weekend. We met lots of other healers and even had some time to get to know them. I had several people attend my seminar on the Many Uses of Muscle Testing. We only had to push three cars out of the mud the entire weekend. The next one will be in the summertime.
Michael and I also hosted a sneak preview of The Celestine Prophecy Movie in our town this month. Boy, did I learn a bunch about promotion, advertising, and setting up a movie to show. Let me tell you, it isn’t all a piece of cake. Although the final financial aspect was not as we would have liked (we ended up a bit in the hole on the project so could not fully support our local charities,) we did have lots of great comments and support from our local community. So, things are not always as they seem, (says Father Jośe from the movie) and we both focused on the silver lining. At least, I’m sure there is one. . .somewhere! Yes, that’s what I’ll choose to think. I’m busy thinking of 10 good things that came of the project. It’s a game Michael and I play when we catch each other thinking less than positive thoughts!
That’s it for this month! Be healthy. Denice
Please forward to a friend.
