Salt Fun Facts, Salt and Celtic Sea Salt: Some of the medical websites I checked out when I had a friend with high blood pressure stated that eating up to an equivalent of 1 teaspoon of salt per day was safe! The sites never addressed the amount of salt in milligrams that we are getting from the foods we eat. Because of these websites, my friend was misled into believing that salt was not hurting him (as his blood pressure went up a notch or two each month.) He started salting everything. One morning he put so much salt in our oatmeal I gagged and almost vomited. I knew this information was wrong, but I did not have anything to substantiate my gut instinct—until I read Sea Salt’s Hidden Powers—then it all came together for me. I hope it helps you as well.

Parsley is effective for nearly all kidney and urinary complaints except severe kidney inflammation. It improves kidney activity and can help eliminate wastes from the blood and tissues of the kidneys. It prevents salt from being reabsorbed into the body tissues; thus parsley literally forces debris out of the kidneys, liver and bladder. It helps improve edema and general water retention, fatigue and scanty or painful urination.

Nutrasweet/Equal/Aspartame is the combination of two amino acids (phenylalanine and aspartic acid) and methanol. Methanol is broken down into formaldehyde (a known carcinogen), formic acid (a poison excreted by ants and scorpions) and diketopiperazine (DKP, which causes brain tumors). This methanol production is hastened with heat. Hmm. wonder about the Gulf War Syndrome where pallets of pop sat in temperatures of 120 degrees for weeks and was consumed quite readily by all our troops. Methanol AND the off gassing of the plastic bottles—what a combination, huh? Aspartame is 200 times sweeter

Monosodium Glutamate (MSG): A quick test to see how your liver is doing in the detoxification arena: Look at the tips of your fingernails. Do you see reddish lines just at the tips? If so, your liver is overloaded. You will need to find out why, cut some MSG foods out of your system, eat more raw fruits and vegetables and possibly add a liver cleanser of some kind to your regime.

What foods are the highest in zinc? Your mineral best bet foods are. . . .I’ve noted that the prescription iron supplements are just too harsh on the system and that the body absorbs these natural sources much more easily. Two signs you may need natural iron supplements are ice chewing and a tan chin and cheek area when the rest of the face is a lighter complexion. You may also want to look into a parasite program to get at the core cause of the anemia.

During the heating process, some compounds of the milk impart a very strong cabbagy flavor that is most noticeable immediately after heating. These compounds dissipate during storage, but approximately one month into storage, UHT milk begins to deteriorate and is described in the industry as “stale.” In these later stages of storage, a bitter taste develops, and then it undergoes “age gelation,” a process in which the milk becomes more viscous and eventually loses fluidity. (Gross!)
