The Basics of Seeing the Aura and Aura Colors
I’ve spent quite a bit of time over the years wishing I could see auras and spending money on videos, books, and really cheapo (but expensive) blue glasses so I could learn how to see the aura consistently, but it hasn’t yet happened on a consistent basis.
The one thing I did notice when studying all these materials was none of the resources really provided a full list of the aura colors and how to interpret them. That really bugged me, so I took a few days and gleaned the internet finding resources on the color combinations. I then compiled and consolidated the descriptions for this handout. I hope that it helps you as a resource. There are some great links at the bottom for further exploration.
Seeing the Aura:
This exercise is designed to see Aura for the first time and/or for practicing to see auras. Choosing good conditions is important. Not only will you see the aura better, but you will also gain confidence about what you see. So, let’s begin:
- Situate the person in front of a very softly illuminated plain white background without shadows. A colored background will change aura colors which complicates things, but you can practice looking at the auras of plants against the blue sky as a background.
- Choose one spot to look at. The middle of the forehead is very good. This is the location of the third eye or brow chakra. In some cultures (India) they put a mark on a forehead. Such a mark in ancient times could mean the invitation to look and see the aura. Other resources recommend looking a couple inches to the right of the head around the ear or shoulder area.
- Look at this spot for 30 to 60 seconds or longer
- After 30 seconds analyze surroundings with your peripheral vision, while still looking at the same spot. Continuing the concentration is most important. Resist temptation to look around. You should see that the background nearby the person is brighter and has a different color than the background further away. This is your own perception of the aura. The longer you concentrate, the better you will see it. Remember, concentration on one spot increases your sensitivity by accumulating the effect of the aura vibration reaching your eyes.
Tips: One resource recommended to let your eyes go slightly out of focus. Another resource recommended to slightly cross your eyes just a bit. Yet another source recommended looking at the throat or heart chakra (although women may feel a bit uncomfortable when their chest is stared at, so you may not want to do this) but practice focusing on the different areas until you find one that works for you.
How to see your own Aura:
Stand about 4 feet in front of a good size mirror. In the beginning it is best if the background behind you is plain white and there are no shadows. Illumination should be VERY soft and uniform not bright. Follow instructions above for seeing Auras.
Practice for at least 10-15 minutes each day to increase your sensitivity and develop auric sight.
After-images: The memory of visual stimulation produces what is termed afterimage. Afterimages have the precisely the same shape as original images. The afterimage of an object surrounded by its aura is larger than the original image. The increase in size is due to the vibration of the aura and actually represents a “snapshot” of the aura. It is therefore essential to focus at one spot when watching the aura and resist temptation to change the point of focus, otherwise an image of the aura may become confused with the afterimage of an object.
Meaning of the Aura and its Colors:
The Aura is a reflection of our being at any given moment. Our being, (essence or True Nature) is what is left when we recognize and discard all our habits, stereotypes, manners, and pretending, superficial behavior and become fully conscious, truly natural and spontaneous.
Some people are so attached to their manners and habits that it is very hard, if not impossible, to discover who they really are unless we look into their auric field.
In general, the more colorful, cleaner and brighter the aura, the better and more spiritually advanced the person. Also, the more uniform the energy distribution in the aura, the healthier and more balanced the person is.
With practice, we can use the distribution of the energy in the aura as a diagnostic tool. Some resources mentioned that it’s the aura around the head area that is most important for interpretation purposes. Usually, there will be one or two dominating colors (strong points) in the aura. These colors will be most likely their favorite colors.
In addition to dominant colors, the Aura reflects thoughts, feelings and desires, which appear like “flashes”, “clouds” or “flames”, usually further away from the head. For example a flash of orange in the Aura indicates a thought or desire to exercise power and control. Orange as a dominant color is a sign of power and general ability to control people. Quickly changing “flashes” indicate quickly changing thoughts.
So let’s get to those colors. . .Lots of room for interpretation here.
In my practice I’d take the list of what the colors mean and muscle test the word or words that best interpreted the colors.
Black Velvet: Like black holes in space, doorways to other realities.
Black: Absence of light or profound forgetting, thwarted ambition (cancer). Draws or pulls energy to it and in so doing, transforms it. It captures light and consumes it. Usually indicates long-term unforgiveness (toward others or another) collected in a specific area of the body, which can lead to health problems; also, entitities within a person’s aura, chakras, or body; past life hurts; unreleased grief from abortions if it appears in the ovaries. Color of protection, a color that can shield individuals from outside energies, reflects that the person is protecting themselves, indicates secrets, a new understanding of burdens and sacrifices will manifest. Can also indicate imbalances (physical imbalances usually show up black or darkened in those areas around the body) can indicate holes in the auric field (substance abusers or abuse victims, usually). This is a difficult color to interpret, so don’t jump to conclusions.

Color of the earth, reflects new growth (especially above the head and around the feet), establishing new roots, a desire to accomplish, reflects industry, organization, a lack of and need for discrimination (across face or touching the head), if seen in chakra areas can mean those chakras need to be cleansed. This color can be difficult to interpret, so don’t jump to any conclusions.

Pink: To obtain a clean pink, you need to mix the purple (the highest frequency we perceive) with red (the lowest frequency). Pink Aura indicates that the person has achieved a perfect balance between spiritual awareness and material existence. The most advanced people have not only a yellow halo around the head (a permanent strong point in the aura) but also a large pink aura extending further away. The pink color in the aura is quite rare on Earth and appears only as a temporary thought, never as a strong point in the aura.

White color is like a noise, rather than a set of harmonious tones (monochromatic colors). The white aura indicates a lack of harmony in the body and mind.
White: Several hours before the death, the Aura becomes white, and greatly increases in intensity. For this reason in most cultures “death” is depicted in WHITE (not black), because in the past, people could actually see a white aura before death. Reflects other energy.
