Pay it Forward
If you haven’t seen the movie, Pay it Forward, please do.
Pay it Forward Movie Review: Young Trevor McKinney (Haley Joel Osment of the Sixth Sense), troubled by his mother’s alcoholism (played by Helen Hunt of the movie Always) and fears of his abusive but absent father, is caught up by an intriguing assignment from his new social studies teacher, Mr. Simonet (Kevin Spacey of American Beauty and Superman Returns).
The assignment: think of something to change the world and put it into action. Trevor conjures the notion of paying a favor not back, but forward–repaying good deeds not with payback, but with new good deeds done to three new people the theory being that exponential occurrences of acts of kindness would occur, but how far reaching would the project go? Trevor’s efforts to make good on his idea affects far more than his family and classmates.
This is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen on doing Random Acts of Kindness. It started a whole movement.
After seeing the movie, Michael and I once gave a trailer away to a fellow because he saw the movie and said that he would give the trailer to the next person when he was done with it AND do two other “pay it forward” activities. He didn’t do it. He sold the trailer for $2500. . . Bad Karmic Debt I tell ya! But we did this in good faith and you can’t just stop doing good things and paying it forward because someone throws a monkey wrench into your project. He lied to us.
If you’ve seen the movie, I’d love to know what you are doing to pay it forward.
